Having only 8 days and a huge country to discover we wondered whether it would be better to spend the first few days in the north of the country and visit Rabat and Casablanca or head to Fes. And as the days passed and the decision seemed difficult I decided to change tactics and instead of choosing which city I want to visit to choose in which hotel I want to stay. And that's how I discovered Mayfez Suites & Spa!

Mayfez is located in the heart of Fes' Medina, on a small alley with big walls and smiling, polite people who will smile and greet you every time they see you.

City's major attractions, such as Chouara tanneries, Medresa Bou Inania, Mentresa Attarine and the Museum of Wood and Handicrafts are just few minutes away. What is even better than the perfect location of the hotel is the fact that once you cross the threshold and leave behind the chaotic, noisy Medina of Fes, you are automatically in a serene, cosy and incredible luxurious environment..

First impressions

Well before the trip, when I contacted Dominique to arrange the details of our visit I already knew that we gonna have a great time with them. Dominique is the owner of the hotel and one of those people who made our trip unforgettable. We arrived at Mayfez around 11 pm after a pretty tiring trip that included 2 flights and 2 hours driving from the city of Rabat where we landed.

Feeling the fatigue to overwhelm us, the wooden door opened and a beautiful palace appeared in front of us. And over there, while we were wondering whether if we had discovered paradise or if we had been sleeping in the back seat of the car and just dreaming, Moulay came to greet us with a huge smile and to confirm that eventually reality can sometimes overcome dreams.

The Suites

Mayfez consists of 5 suites, each of which is decorated in a different style. And if I had adored the hotel from the moment I first saw it back in Greece, looking at photos on my computer screen, it was the moment that Moulay guided us to our suite, which I felt I had found my own oasis. The bathtub was one of the first things I saw coming in I loved it at first glance! I would be so happy if I could take it back home with me.

I explored the rest of the room next morning. Our room was huge and bright, the bed so comfortable that in a few hours managed to extinguish tons of fatigue, while our balcony had an incredible view of the city of Fes and hotel's 1000sqm garden.

The hotel also gives the tenants of each room a cell phone to be able to contact them if they get lost in the medina. Although we never needed it, it is incredibly useful if you want to explore the world's largest medina without stress.

Breakfast is served in two different rooms. On the first day we had breakfast in a beautiful, cosy room with velvet sofas, decorated in blue and red tones while the second day in a large room, surrounded by windows that emanated the room into light.

What was included in the breakfast? Of course great mint tea, baguettes, croissants, Moroccan crepes, jams, olives, eggs and fresh fruits. A big plus is the fact that if you want to leave early, as we did on the last day, they can prepare breakfast in order to be able to take it with you!

Although Mayfez is a small boutique hotel, has much more facilities than one could ask for. A beautiful swimming pool in the middle of the garden, 6 beautiful lounges, a spa where someone can find a jacuzzi, Moroccan hammam and massage services  as well as a terrace with great views of the city of Fes.

I do not know how I managed to write so much about Mayfez without talking to you about this terrace yet! Those who are reading my blog already know that I love seeing the cities from above and I always look for places with the best view. In Fes I didn't search for such a place since all I needed to do was to climb the 20 steps that separated me from the most magnificent view of the city!
